Enunciating Intensions

I have trouble following through on my intensions. When to wake up, when to eat, when to go to school, what to work on, etc, etc, etc.

I'd like to improve this.

An idea for which I've heard some evidence is that the missing factor is forming a specific intension about the time and place where the activity will be performed.

Help

Recently, things had been slipping out of my control in a variety of ways.
It all broke at once.
People were around for the break, and they wanted to help.
When they offered, I felt the impulse to push them away.
It felt like the problems were my cross to bear.
It feels like the intuitive, narratively correct thing to happen.
But it's not rational.
And rationality carried the day, by a small but real margin.
And now I'm seeking yet more help.
And I think it's working.

Home

Safe, comfortable.
Surrounded by friends.
Not all my friends, but some.
Not the tightest friends, yet.
I know what needs be done.
I know I can do it.
I'm glad I'm home again.

Breaking out of Loops

Today I caught myself in a loop. Being in a loop isn't unusual, I fall into them all of the time. The unusual part is that I realised what I was doing, and applied sufficient willpower to escape. I'm going to try to foster this behavior. Maybe keep a tally of loop-escapes. It can be fun! And it's a positive framework to approach not wasting time under.

I Love America

America is my home. My family, close and extended, lives here. My friends, recent and past, live here. My life, now and for the foreseeable future, lives here. Whenever I think of America, I am happy.

America gives me opportunities. The schools that I've been through, the jobs I've had, my careers in the rest of my life, are here. Whenever I think of America, I am grateful.

America is ethical, when graded on a scale. We don't start wars, we make sure the Nazis and the Stalinists don't win them. We have a rule of law, we have rights, and we have a system which can outweigh any individual trying to take control. Whenever I think of America, I am proud*.

America is the home of some of the most impressive developments in science and technology. English is the common language of the world, and it's not because of England. Cars and computers and internet, physics and bilogy and computer science and mathematics. Whenever I think of America, I am proud.

Thank you, America.
